Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number. OK first of a fair warning that not an expert user of Access so your patience is highly appreciated. As the title says I am getting this error when setting up the relationship between the two tables.
For easier explanation of what I'm trying to do and how the table is constructed, I have the screenshot below, have a look please. Now I did tried to understand the relationship in access and to be fair and honest, its complicated, just like any "real" relationships. So here I am asking for advice like in real world I would! I got this idea from watching YouTube videos and its quite fancy. In the videos it's just a click and drag and drop and that's it! I want to do that! I tried looking up the primary key and in design view of all the tables I have primary key checked.
Did I missed anything? I'm not sure but I need to get this sorted so I can start making a form more questions coming once I'm on forms making. Any help would be appreciated, highly appreciated. It might be worth mentioning that I deleted the tenants primary key watched a video of Endangered Species (Tales From The Darkside) (Remix) - Ice Cube - AmeriKKKas Most Wanted that how to do it because the id was not in sequence and I didn't liked it a bit.
So I deleted it and created a new one and now it's there, I hope so. I hope it's not the reason of this primary table not working. This thread is locked. Vinson Replied on October 24, A Join is typically between the Primary Key of the parent table here Propertiesor a uniquely indexed field in the parent table, to a foreign key field in the Child table.
Access is complaining because Properties. The "One" side table would be Landlords since one Landlord may have more than one Propertyso the join would be from Landlords.
If your business rules are different can one Property have several Landlords, over time perhaps? On another subject, don't expect Autonumbers to be gapless or sequential. That's not their purpose; a primary key must be unique only one property in the entire database has this specific propertyID but that's ALL; autonumbers are not designed to be a count, or a sort order. Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. The way you have explained the error is very helpful and now I have a clear picture of the error Field Of Joy - Söniquê - Söniquê made in the design.
I will follow Field Of Joy - Söniquê - Söniquê suggestion which you have made and hopefully it'll work. And yes Field Of Joy - Söniquê - Söniquê are correct a landlord can have multiple properties but a property can not have more than one landlord at a given time, the scenario yes that over time property changed hands but at the moment it's not the model I'm working with.
Having said that, it's something which I need to keep in mind and figure out a way how to do it when it happens! I figured that the other person was just spamming the forum Andante - Mozart*, Czech Chamber Orchestra Leader Josef Vlach - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik / Divermento no way I'm calling him from the UK. A Join is typically between the Primary Key of the parent table here Propertiesor a uniquely indexed field in the parent table, to a foreign key field in the Child table.
A few things happened when I tried the suggestion. Really silly but it is what it is and here it is. I changed the table id names for good documentation as suggested. Added a field to the properties table named LandlordID and for a minute it gave me the error that fields are not correct and something about the data type. I think it was this, Relationship must be of on the same number of fields with the same Put Her Down - Chuck Berry - Concerto In B Goode type.
It did said at the bottom of the pop up menu that relationship is one to many. So almost there. I checked the fields to best of my ability which is limited btw anyway, I changed the autonumber to number and it doesn't connect anymore. It was giving me the above mentioned error over and over and I tried to check the fields and properties Field Of Joy - Söniquê - Söniquê couldn't see anything different between the two tables and I just deleted the entry and added the field again, tried and it worked!!
I'm sure it's not the access which was at fault lol and it's me who was not doing something right while "thinking" and "trying" to do it right but the min got frustrated and deleted and added again, it worked! Now I can get pass this Field Of Joy - Söniquê - Söniquê start the form thing, which is even bigger hurdle to be honest.
But it won't get it done by itself so I'll get on with it and might start a new thread for sure when run into something more techy. Site Feedback. Tell us about your experience with our site. Your help is much appreciated. I have the same question Field Of Joy - Söniquê - Söniquê John W. Vinson Replied on October 24, The design is flawed here. You need to define the real-life relationships: e. Every Property must have One and only one Landlord Every Landlord can manage zero, one, or several Properties would be a typical one to many relationship. Thanks for marking this as the answer. How satisfied are you with this reply?
